Starting Thursday, Bryan County residents will get the chance to enjoy the works of local artists.
The Arts on the Coast Association will kick off the Fall Art Exhibit showcasing local artists with an opening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Richmond Hill City Center. The fall exhibit boasts more than 25 of the association member’s works in oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, mixed media and photography. The Fall Art Exhibit will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 19.
“We want to, No. 1, encourage participation in the arts, said Glenda Carter, the publicity chairman for the association. “And we want to share what our artists are doing.”
This is the second time the association has hosted a fall art show. It also hosts a spring art show every year, Carter said.
“We had a very good response,” she said of last year’s exhibits. “It’s always well attended.”
Attendees will enjoy the works of artists who are well known in the community, Carter said. Finis Layton, Michelle Pursley and Kathy Hatcher, all of Richmond Hill, are some of the artists that will be displayed.
“No. 1, you will be able to experience the great artwork we have in the local community,” Carter said.
The exhibit also gives Coastal Georgia artists, including beginner artists, a chance the gain confidence and exposure, said Tina Eberlein, the president of the association.
“Coastal Georgia has many artists,” she said. “This gives them a chance to exhibit their art.”
The opening reception is open to the public. Admission is free and complementary refreshments will be served. There will also be a cash bar.
People who go to the reception can enter into a drawing for a chance to win a piece of art, Carter added.
The 2010 Arts on the Coast Fall Exhibit is sponsored by The Wilderman Group, Leahy Art Gallery, Midway Gallery and Utrecht Art Supply, according to the association’s website.
The Arts on the Coast Association, a nonprofit organization, was founded five years ago and boasts fewer than 100 members.
