Youth Sponsorship Asian festival trip
A Youth Sponsorship trip to the Savannah Wildlife Area, originally scheduled June 4, has been changed to the Youth Sponsorship Asian Festival trip and rescheduled for June 11.
The festival will include live stage performances, martial arts demonstrations, authentic cuisine, Asian cultural displays and more. In addition, there will be a side trip to an ice cream parlor. There's no cost, but participants will need to bring money for lunch and ice cream.

Hunter GC Golf Scramble
The Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-person Golf Scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a. m. June 10 at Hunter Golf Club. The event will accept the first 25 four-person teams. Register your team by June 8.
The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club members, active duty, retirees and Army civilians, $45 for civilian guests.

Kids fish on Fort Stewart
A morning to introduce youth to the life-long sport of fishing, will be from 7-11 a.m. June 11 at Pond 30, Training Area Echo 1, off Highway144 West.
Kids 16 and younger will have an opportunity to catch 10 catfish from a heavily stocked pond, compete in a bait-casting competition, watch a fish-cleaning demonstration, get their face painted, win door prizes, visit information booths and get their fish cleaned.
The event is free. It is sponsored by DFMWR's Outdoor Recreation, DPW Fisheries Branch, DES game wardens and Liberty County BASS Club.
Activities will be scheduled every 30 minutes from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Door prize drawings will be held every 30 minutes starting at 7:15 a.m. DPW Fish and Wildlife will staff the fish-cleaning station from 8-11 a.m.

Skeet Tournament at Hunter
The Hunter Skeet Tournament, with check-in starting at 9 a.m. and competition in the 50-bird skeet or trap shoot beginning at 10 a.m., will be June 11 at the Hunter Army Airfield Skeet Range. The range is off North Perimeter Road.
Lunch will be provided and prizes awarded.
The event is open to all military ID cardholders and civilians. Entry fee is $25 for either event or $40 for both skeet and trap. Register by June 9.

Leonard-Neal CDC grand opening
A ribbon-cutting to mark the grand opening of a new child development center, building 148 at 131 Leonard Neal Street on Hunter Army Airfield, will be at 9:30 a.m. June 14.
The full-service facility will provide 144 additional child care spaces for family members ages 0-5 of the Hunter community. It contains 13,153 square feet and was built at a cost of $4.3 million.
Soldiers, family members and members of the community are invited.

2011-12 school schedule changes
Fort Stewart DoDEA Schools is looking at changing classes schedules for the 2011-12 school year. Letters have been sent to parents about the change.
The proposal is to provide teachers and staff a consistent time for professional development and collaboration. Students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. each Thursday.
