Riceboro’s annual Ricefest, the community’s salute to its roots as a rice-growing area, is set for Saturday.
Hampton Island Preserve, an upscale residential community southeast of Riceboro, is the presenting sponsor of the second annual Ricefest, which will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. around city hall.
Activities will include a rice dish cooking contest, historical exhibits and children’s activities, a harvest demonstration and crafts. Entertainment will include ventriloquist Willie Brown with Woody, The Darien Shouters, author Cornelia Walker Bailey talking about “God, Dr. Buzzard and the Bolito Man,” and the Walter Ross Community Choir.
There will be hourly drawings for prizes, including items valued at $10,000 donated by Hampton Island, including a 3-day, 2-night stay on the island and a Lowcountry boil dinner for 10.
Hampton Island also will have a produce stand selling fresh produce from the island’s farm including sweet potatoes, radishes, lettuce and collards; fun for the kids, a friendly petting zoo featuring ponies, ferrets, rabbits and turtles also will be on hand.
