United Way seeks volunteers

Participating volunteers will make recommendations regarding distribution of money raised during the 2009 campaign.
United Way of the Coastal Empire is looking for community members interested in being part of this year’s community investment process. Every year, volunteers come together to review funding requests from area health and human service organizations. These volunteers are tasked with making sure that United Way donations are being used in the most effective way to benefit programs that are achieving long term, measurable results.
Interested participants will be part of one of five panels that will spend four or five hours per week during a five-month period reviewing program applications, visiting program sites and finally making recommendations as to how the money should be invested.
There will be a training and orientation session at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Savannah Civic Center. This training is centered on how to review the application, evaluate outcomes and determine level of support.
Interested community members can call Tara Jennings at (912) 651-7722 or e-mail her at tjennings@uwce.org.
