A Liberty County teenager was shot and killed, apparently by his older brother, Monday afternoon at a Midway area home.

Liberty County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on East Oglethorpe Highway after a report of shots being fired, Maj. Joshua Heath said. Upon arrival, deputies found the 16-year-old inside the home and saw a suspect in the woods near the house. They apprehended the suspect, who is the older brother of the teenaged victim.

According to county jail records, Javaris White was booked into the jail Monday and charged with murder. He is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, and receipt, possession or transfer of firearm by a convicted felon.

Bond was denied.

Heath said initial investigation showed the two brothers were in an argument, leading to the older brother shooting and killing the younger one.

The shooting occurred just after 1:30 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation.
