A heavy law enforcement presence has been reported along Retreat Road and near Hampton Island, following a chase that entered Liberty County from McIntosh County.

Authorities are searching for two men who fled after their vehicle crashed during a pursuit with law enforcement.

The McIntosh chase began as a shoplifting case in Glynn County, according to McIntosh Sheriff’s Office Col. Danny Lowe.

Glynn County authorities were chasing a pair of shoplifters who were heading northbound on I-95.  A McIntosh County deputy picked up the chase around 2 p.m. Tuesday in McIntosh County near mile marker 67. 

The deputy chased the vehicle into Liberty County where the driver wrecked, rolling over the vehicle into an embankment at mile marker 70. The driver and his passenger got out of the vehicle and fled into the woods.

Deputies from Liberty and McIntosh counties entered the gated island, searching the island, including the property of movie star Ben Affleck, for the two men.

They are still at large.
