Hinesville police are investigating who opened fire in the Walmart parking lot Monday night and why.

Hinesville police officers were dispatched to the store’s parking lot after receiving a call about shots fired. Officers arrived on the scene in less than a minute, according to Hinesville Police Department Lt. Jonathan Greer.

Once on the scene, store security directed the officers to a fire exit door, where they saw it had been “We’re investigating the vehicle that had been shot multiple times as well as the building itself,” Greer said.

One resident told police they heard between six and 10 gunshots.

No injuries were reported, and Lt. Greer said there were no witnesses so far to the shooting of the car or the building. One round penetrated the fire exit door and lodged into the sheet rock in a customer service area, but no customers were nearby.
