The Hinesville Fire Department battled two brush fires in the
Mills Creek subdivision area Thursday afternoon which damaged over an acre of
woods.
According Hinesville Fire Department Capt. Robert Kitchings,
both fires burned about half an acre each and at one point structures which
were 30 to 40 feet away were in danger. Kitchings said firefighters were
quick to protect the nearby homes. It is not known how the fire started, but it is currently under control.
Kitchings said due to current conditions the city of
Hinesville is not issuing burn permits because of dry conditions and possible high winds
which may crop up.
