Blockbuster Video recently announced plans to close up to 960 stores in the upcoming year, but it’s not yet certain which stores, including the Hinesville location, will survive the chopping block.
“There is no list that has been published,” Blockbuster spokesman Randy Hargrove said.
He said the company is going to look at each case separately and consider renegotiating leases and altering or shrinking the stores as necessary.
“We’re evaluating all that internally, but we haven’t released a list,” Hargrove said. “Our goal is to keep as many stores open as possible.”
The spokesman also said that despite the store closings, Blockbuster will increase its distribution points because they plan to put more emphasis on mail rental services and vending machines.
Downloadable movies available online is also a priority for Blockbuster.
