The Heritage Bank is warning customers about an apparent e-mail scam that is using the bank’s name.
E-mail messages started showing up in area residents’ inboxes earlier this week.
The fraudulent e-mail message says that the bank is “carrying out a scheduled yearly online banking system update” and requests that the recipient click on a provided link and update information. Several of Heritage’s clients received the email and contacted the bank. Bank officials have confirmed that these emails did not originate at the bank and that an investigation is underway.
“The Heritage Bank
does not send e-mails to
our clients asking them to submit personal information. Any such request should be viewed as highly suspicious and recipients should not respond or click on any of the links that appear in such an e-mail,” James M. Floyd Jr., president/CEO of the bank, said. “We are working with our security experts to investigate the scam.”
Floyd added that clients may call the bank’s Client Care Line from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. if they have any questions. The number is 1-800-624-6452.
