Firehouse Subs will open its newest franchise restaurant in Hinesville on Monday, according to local franchise co-owner Eddie Wells.

Wells said he and co-owner Mitual Desai have two other stores, one in Brunswick and one in Beaufort, S.C. The Hinesville store is at 556 W. Oglethorpe Highway, next to Professional Eye Care.

“We plan to open for business on Nov. 12,” said Wells, who added that some of their employees already have received training at their restaurant in Brunswick. “We’ve also had in-house training since Wednesday of (last) week.”

Wells is proud to say he originally is from Hinesville and a Bradwell Institute graduate. He said he has more than 25 years experience in the restaurant business, including nine years working with Wilton Foster at Hinesville’s Western Sizzlin, which closed its doors in 2011.

He said Desai has been in the restaurant business 10 years.

Wells said before over-stuffing roasted sub rolls, Firehouse Subs steams the fresh-sliced meats and cheeses to enhance the flavors.

“In addition to our sandwiches, new customers soon find out we’re also big supporters of the Public Safety Foundation,” said Wells regarding the nonprofit organization established by Firehouse Subs in 2005 to support “hometown heroes.” All donations go to local fire departments, law-enforcement agencies and emergency medical services.

The eatery’s name also is indicative of its support for first responders.

According to the company’s website, Firehouse Subs was started in 1994 by Chris and Robin Sorensen, two brothers who also were firefighters. Since the first restaurant opened in Jacksonville, Fla., the company has added more than 525 stores in 32 states and Puerto Rico.
