Leadership Liberty gets physical at Youth Challenge

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce kicked off its 2017-18 Leadership Liberty class on Sept. 29-30 at the LaQuinta Inn and Suites in Flemington.

Participants met for the first time Friday for activities that fostered teamwork and leadership. Chamber CEO Leah Poole led the session on the facets of leadership and the importance of trust, consensus building and communication.

The next day, participants had a day full of physical and mental challenges, completing an obstacle course at the Fort Stewart Youth Challenge Academy. They had the opportunity to zipline and rappel and learn more about ways the academy impacts the community.

Poole said she believes this year’s class will be a success.

"It’s always fun starting the Leadership Liberty class," she said. "You never really know what group mix you are walking into and it looks like to me that this year’s class is sure to be fun and come away with a lot of information on how they can build a better Liberty County."

Leadership Liberty participants meet at least once a month for nine months to learn about various functions of the community, including county and city government, public health, education, tourism, economic development and more. Different civic, business and government entities host the class each month.
