Betty Campbell, 58, of Jesup, drove her 2006 Nissan Altima through the front plate glass window of VIP Office Furniture & Supply at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday.

Hinesville Police Department Lt. Max McLendon said Campbell was coming off Central Avenue into the VIP parking lot and confused the brake and gas pedals while trying to dodge the rough parking lot pavement.

“There’s a lot of tree roots,” McLendon explained.

VIP employee Cathy O’Hagan, 45, was sitting at her desk behind a partition when Campbell’s car came through the window. O’Hagan sustained minor injuries to her left leg and hip, according to McLendon. Campbell was not injured.

O’Hagan’s husband drove her, at her request, to Liberty Regional Medical Center, the traffic accident investigations commander said. EMS was on scene.

“Any time a car goes into a building there’s potential for a lot of injuries,” McLendon said. “In this case, no one was seriously injured. There’s a lot of property damage.”

Campbell has been charged with failure to exercise due care.
