A train struck a vehicle at a Ludowici railroad crossing Thursday evening, but no injuries were reported.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Elmer Martin, the vehicle’s driver, 16 years old, was driving in a heavy downpour and could not see in front of him when he made a right onto the tracks on Macon Street and got stuck shortly before 9 p.m.

The teen alerted law enforcement officers, who arrived on scene and attempted to have the train stopped. But the message did not arrive in time to the conductor and the train struck the vehicle, sending it an estimated 93 feet from the point of impact.

The teen driver and his passenger, his sister, were not injured.
