The night before he and the rest of the Headquarters Co. deployed to Iraq, Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart, spoke about his thoughts and expectations for the division’s time in the war-torn country.

He was speaking at a ceremony that unveiled yellow ribbons on an oak tree in Hinesville’s Veterans Park at the corner of Main Street and Washington Avenue. The ribbons around town are symbols of residents’ visible support for troops and their hope for their return.
