Head Start centers in Liberty and Long counties are accepting applications for the 2007-08 school year.
Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority administers the Head Start Program in this area from its main office in Brunswick. It operates 11 centers, in nine counties. It is funded to serve a total of 917 preschool children. Besides the Liberty center in Riceboro’s and Long’s in Ludowici, centers are in Bryan, Evans, Glynn, McIntosh, Wayne, and two in both in Camden and Tattnall.
All centers are accepting applications for the 2007-2008 school year.  Children for the Head Start Program must be at least 3 years old, and not older than 5 years old, on or before Sept. 1.
The program provides individualized and group activities helping children fulfill their developmental potential. While at the center, each child is considered a unique person with exploring minds and educational needs. The program offers two meals and a snack daily, parent involvement activities; health and dental exams; as well as speech and language screenings. There is no cost to parents.
Applications may be completed at the centers. The following documents will be required; birth certificate, proof of income (2006 tax forms, three consecutive pay stubs, Social Security or DFCS letter, letter from employer, etc.) state pre-school immunization record (Form 3231), and a physician’s letter for any child with special needs. For enrollment, the following documents will be required; Social Security numbers for each family member, a physical examination, a dental examination, and a current Medicaid, PeachCare or private insurance card if applicable.
