The nonprofit youth group Project Reach G.A.N.G. Inc.  will host its Back to School Rally in Riceboro at 10 a.m. Saturday in Briar Bay
Park. Admission and activities are free for all attendees. This is the 12th  year the rally has been held for the community.
“You can look forward to a good motivational program to get everyone ready for the new school year,” Executive Director Lavonia LeCounte said. “Not just the children, but parents grandparents and those who may not have completed school and are looking for resources on how to return.”
LeCounte has also reached out to area businesses and organizations to participate, offering them booth space for a nominal fee. “This is a great opportunity to inform Liberty County and surrounding areas of what a business or group has to offer,” she said. So far LeCounte said she’s expecting at least 15-20 sponsors and 30 booths.
The rally features guest speaker Larry “Gator” Rivers of the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters; other community leaders will speak as well. “There’s so much stuff. We have Samoan cultural dancers and the a weightlifting team, free food , a slip ‘n’ slide,” she said.
The rally will also feature a basketball tournament, cultural dance performances, free school supplies, health checks, games, rides, horseback riding, refreshments and more.  The G.A.N.G. recording artists will also present a concert with other guest artists.
“There’s just gonna be a whole wealth of knowledge for the whole community,” LeCounte said. “ It’s in Riceboro but it’s for all of  Liberty county.  It’s there for anyone who needs help or direction. It’s fun and educational and everyone benefits from it,” she said. “We’re expecting a large crowd out there that day.”
