The faculty and staff of Glennville Christian Academy are in training for the 2007-08 school year.
Work over the summer prepared the gym for the upcoming sports season, dramatic presentations and chapel services.
Teachers began their return by attending the Summer Seminar Teacher Training Session at Pensacola Christian College. PCC is the home of the A-Beka Christian School Curriculum that is the bedrock of GCA’s academic program.
Parents could make their first installment payments last week.
The in-service training for teachers started Monday and runs through Thursday. Richard and Gail Barnard, founding principal of GCA and current administrator of Bethel Christian Academy in Kinston, N.C., are sharing insight into the Christian school experience with faculty members.
Kindergarten through fourth grade family orientation is set for 5 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria. Fifth-12th orientation will also be on Thursday at 7 p.m. Parents, guardians and students are reminded this is a mandatory meeting.
The first day of classes is set for Friday.
Students in seventh-12th grades arrive at school Monday, ready for a week of camp. Students and faculty will spend the week at the W.W. Mann Retreat Center near Brooklet, helping the camp recover from its busy summer. As part of GCA’s emphasis on community service, students will help clean, repair and paint the camp. The Rev. Stephen Windham, pastor of Glennville Free Will Baptist Church, will address students each evening.
Athletes, cheerleaders and coaches will participate in a 50-mile hike to raise money for GCA athletics. The event is scheduled for Sept. 6-7.
Tickets will be on sale, starting Aug. 27, for individual “dress up” photos to be taken Sept. 8. Proceeds will help pay for elementary-wide field trips planned for each semester of the school year. The first trip will be to the Georgia National Fair in Perry on Oct. 12.
High school students in grades 9-12 may opt to attend the Senior High Leadership Retreat at Epworth-by-the-Sea on St. Simons Island, Sept. 19-21. The Rev. Paul Smith, Georgia Christian Association Athletic commissioner, will challenge students to make a difference at school, home and in the community. Scheduled activities include a ropes course and a bicycle tour of the island.
