SAVANNAH -- Savannah Technical College has received the Gulfstream 2007 Supplier of the Year Award.
The award is given to only a fraction of the Gulfstream suppliers and reflects the company and college's mutual relationship.
"This award acknowledges the unique relationship we share," college President C. B. Rathburn said. "We're certainly not the traditional supplier of parts or equipment. We're supplying Gulfstream with highly-skilled graduates ready to work in the aviation industry."
Since 2006, Gulfstream announced a major expansion of its facilities and operations in Savannah. Part of the expansion included a partnership with Savannah Tech to meet the company's growing workforce needs. The College offers aviation related careers with guaranteed interviews upon program completion in three key aviation areas; aircraft electrical assembly certificate, aircraft structural assembly certificate and luxury craft cabinetmaking certificate.
The college will also open an aviation training center at the Crossroads Technology Campus within the next year, enabling the program to expand its offerings to include diploma and degree options.
In addition to aviation, Gulfstream offers guaranteed interviews for graduates of two other programs offered at the college; certified warehousing and distribution specialist offered through the economic development division and paint and refinishing specialist certificate offered through the Automotive Collision Repair department.
One hundred ninety-six graduates have completed the programs. A majority of them have already begun careers in the local aviation industry, many with Gulfstream Aerospace.
