FPCA sets summer camps

First Presbyterian Christian Academy will offer summer camps beginning this month. The camps are open to the public and will offer children opportunities to try new activities and take day trips.
The ’Landers’ Day Camp will run from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. daily from June 14 through Aug. 13.
Camp coordinators say the program is designed to provide a safe, nurturing, Christian environment for children during the summer.
In addition to the ’Landers’ Day Camp, FPCA will offer a series of specialty programs as part of the Highlanders’ Camp Discovery.
Coordinators say Camp Discovery will allow children to explore specialty fields including science, art and sports.
The Camp Discovery programs are:
• 3-D sculpture camp
When: 9-11:30 a.m., June 14-25
Cost: $125
Info: Campers will design and build a three-dimensional sculpture, learn about abstract art and realistic and imaginary figures.
• Soccer camp
When: 3-5 p.m., June 14-18
Cost: $60
Ages: 4 and older
Info: Campers will learn soccer fundamentals and plays. Participants will finish with an advanced knowledge of the game.
• Dance camp
When: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., June 21-25
Cost: $75
Ages: 6 and older
Info: Campers will learn ballet, jazz and hip-hop from a professional instructor.
• Pre-school dance camp
When: 2:30-3:30 p.m., June 21-25
Cost: $50
Ages: 3-5
Info: Campers will learn the basics of ballet, jazz and hip-hop from a professional instructor.
• Kiddie cooking camp
When: June 21-25
Cost: $50
Ages: 5-7 (camp is from noon-1:30 p.m.); ages 8 and older (camp is from 2-4 p.m.)
Info: Campers will learn about nutrition and healthy eating habits by preparing various recipes.
• Musical theater camp
When: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., June 28-July 2

Ages: 6 and older
• Creative writing camp
When: July 6-9
Cost: $50
Ages: Fifth- through seventh-graders (camp is from 9-11 a.m.); Eighth grade and older (camp is from 1-3:30 p.m.)
Info: Campers will learn how to write short stories, dialogue and how to bring their writing to life.
• Animal science camp
When: 9 a.m.-noon, July 12-16
Cost: $75
Ages: First- through fourth-graders
Info: Campers will study the behaviors and characteristics of birds, insects and more.
• Forensic science workshop
When: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., July 12-16
Cost: $75
Ages: Fifth-graders and older
Info: Campers will solve a mystery that plays out throughout the week. Participants will learn basic procedures used in analyzing crime scenes including, fingerprints techniques and more.
• Rocket camp
When: 9 a.m.-noon, July 19-23
Cost: $125
Ages: Fourth- through sixth-graders
Info: Campers will complete experiments dealing with Newton’s Law, build and launch an Estes rocket and will end the camp with a trip to Cape Canaveral, Fla.
• Vocal camp
When: July 26-30
Cost: $75
Ages: Third- through fifth-graders (camp is from 9 a.m.-noon); Sixth-graders and older (camp is from 1-4 p.m.)
Info: Campers will learn about vocal manipulation, vocal placement, breathing techniques and exercises.
• Tennis camp
When: 9-11 a.m., Aug. 2-6
Cost: $75
Ages: 8 and older
Info: Campers will learn the basics of tennis and strategies to become a better player.
• Christian yoga and creative movement class
Cost: $50
When: Aug. 2-6
Ages: 5-8 (camp is from 8:30-9:45 a.m.); 9 and older (camp is from 10-11:30 a.m.)
Info: Campers will learn yoga movements and breathing and relaxation techniques. The class will begin with a sun salutation.
• Basketball camp
When: 8:30 a.m.-noon, Aug. 9-13
Cost: $75
Ages: First- through seventh-graders
Info: The co-ed basketball camp will teach passing, dribbling, shooting and offensive and defensive team drills.
