LCHS students promote reading

The Reading Bowl Team from Lewis Fraiser Middle School placed first in the Middle School Division in Liberty County and participated in the Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on March 3 at Valdosta State University. Liberty County High School hosted the first Liberty County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Feb. 21. The competition among the middle school teams was exciting and all of the participants preformed wonderfully.
The student team from Lewis Frasier Middle School (pictured below, coached by Sharon Dunham, earned first place.  
The student team from Midway Middle School, coached by Myra Clark-Johnson, battled Snelson-Golden Middle School, coached by Kathy Webb, for second place in an extra round.
The student teams from Lewis Frasier Middle School and Midway Middle School traveled to Valdosta State University on March 3 to compete in the middle school portion of the Southern Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl.
Joseph Martin Elementary and Liberty County High School also sent student teams to compete in the Southern Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. The Joseph Martin Elementary team coaches were Elaine Walker and Elaine Dasher.
The Liberty County High School coach was Kay Williams.
Liberty County High School’s student team earned third place in the high school division of the Southern Regional Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl.
The reading comprehension bowl was created by Helen Ruffin, a media specialist in Dekalb County, as a way to encourage students to read.  
Prior to the bowl, elementary and middle school student-team members read books from the Georgia Book Award Nominees list. The high school student-team participants also read books, but they were from the Georgia Peach Book Award Nominees for Teen Readers.
