Liberty Elementary School teachers Marsha Simmons and Lela Dickens recently encouraged fellow teachers and staff members to join forces and raise more than $2,500 for the United Way and win the 100 percent participation School Spirit Award. Principal Chris Anderson asked volunteers to support the cause, and every teacher employed at Liberty Elementary School participated in the fundraising effort.
Hours after the challenge was issued, the totals were gathered by representatives from the school. Kristin Barrett, Mona Cochran, Dickens, Tiffany Leon, Dawn MacDonald, Karen McDonald and Simmons worked as a team to rally the staff and submit the money pledged to the United Way. The staff’s effort garnered the school a spirit stick, which was presented to the school. Liberty Elementary school will keep the stick for a year.
