The Long County School System recently received a grant to help improve safety in the three school cafeterias.

Last month, Georgia School Board Association Risk Management Director Dr. Ricky Brantley presented $5,000 to Long County Support Services Director Scotty Hattaway and School Nutrition Director Stephanie Fox. The safety incentive grant was approved for food services. Brantley said Long County was one of only 31 districts in the state to receive grants.

“This grant is quite an achievement,” Long County Superintendent Dr. Robert Waters said. “It is only by everyone at all levels working as a team that we were able to get it.”

Brantley congratulated the system and told members of the Board of Education they were fortunate to have staff who seek ways to improve safety in their schools.

He said GSBA Risk Management Services is trying to partner with Georgia public schools to foster a culture of safety, protect their assets and minimize financial losses.
