Several area students have earned academic honors and graduated from colleges:

Crystal Holley, Elizabeth Pirkle and Sharon Baldwin, all of Hinesville, and Mary Gordon of Ludowici are among the Valdosta State University students who recently were announced as having met all qualifications for graduation.

Locals make VSU dean’s list
Sharon Ashley Baldwin of Hinesville and Richard Keith Welch of Midway recently were named to the Valdosta State University dean’s list for the summer 2014 semester. Students who achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher and carry nine or more semester credit hours with an institutional (VSU) GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible for the dean’s list.

Rios on Austin Peay dean’s list
Jason Rios of Ludowici recently was named to the Austin Peay State University dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester. To qualify for the list, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or greater.

Steward graduates from Arizona State
Jennifer Steward of Hinesville recently graduated from Arizona State University. More than 12,000 ASU undergraduate and graduate students had their degrees conferred at the commencement ceremony. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan served as the speaker for the undergraduate ceremony in Sun Devil Stadium.

Tyson makes GSSU president’s list
Christian Tyson of Riceboro recently was named to the fall 2014 president’s list at Georgia Southwestern State University and was among 468 students recognized for scholastic achievement. To be eligible for the list, a student must earn a semester GPA of 4.0 and take a minimum of 12 credit hours.
