Walker Middle School’s Future Business Leaders of America sponsored the third annual “Warm a Life” blanket campaign this month. The club started the blanket drive in 2009 when Mark Cooper of Factor’s Cottage, a gift store in Savannah, asked the group to help collect blankets for area homeless.
The club members collected 75 new and used blankets to donate this year, and on Nov. 16 Cooper came to speak to FBLA members about his career and also about how he will use the blankets. The new blankets will be donated to local the local homeless and the used blankets will be donated to an animal shelter to help keep the animals warm during the winter. This was one of Walker Middle School’s biggest community services projects of the year.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, Walker Middle School FBLA will sponsor a toy drive for needy children this month. To donate a toy, drop it off at Walker Middle School. If you know a needy family in the Long County School System with small children who should be visited by a secret Santa, please email FBLA advisers Amanda Sikes at asikes@long.k12.ga.us or Julia Smiley at jsmiley@long.k12.ga.us before Dec. 15.
