Fatal accident on Leroy Coffer Sunday morning

One person is dead following an early morning accident on Leroy Coffer Highway early Sunday morning. According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper, Marvin Frazier the accident occurred at 6:30 a.m. near mile marker 20.  Frazier said a white Honda Acura driven my a male was traveling in the lane heading in the direction of Highway 17 towards Richmond Hill/Savannah when he struck a woman driving a light blue Hyundai Sonata. the trooper said it was a head on collision.

The man, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Liberty County Fire Services Chief, Brian Darby, the woman was transported by ambulance to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. As of now her condition is unknown.

Leroy Coffer Highway heading toward Georgia Highway 84 was closed for several hours while Frazier investigated the accident.

Liberty County Fire Services as well as the Liberty County Sheriffs Office and medical personnel responded to the scene.  The accident remains under investigation.
