A father was shot and killed Sunday evening following an altercation with his 16-year old son at a home on the 300 block of Wilkins Road near Midway.

According to Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes, deputies were dispatched to the home around 7:30 p.m. yesterday in reference to a gunshot victim.  When deputies arrived they found James McCray, 43, dead. Sikes said upon further investigation, the victim’s 16-year old son - whose name has not been released -was arrested and later charged as an adult with the murder of McCray, his biological father. 

The 16-year old made his first appearance in court  this afternoon.. Bond was denied, confirmed LCSO Chief Deputy Jon Long.  Sikes said the teen will be held at the youth detention center in Claxton following his court appearance.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow at the GBI crime lab.
