FEMA is opening a disaster recovery center at the Liberty County Fire Services’ Miller Park headquarters.
The center, at 6944 East Oglethorpe Highway in Midway, will be open Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 1-6 p.m.
“You can’t miss the signs,” Liberty County EMA director Bob Dodd said.
The DRC is open for residents seeking help for either Tropical Storm Debby or Hurricane Helene.
Residents seeking disaster assistance should have the following with them:
Address with zip code
Condition of damaged home
Insurance information, if available
Social Security number
Phone number
Mail address or email address where they can receive notifications
Residents seeking FEMA assistance also can register online at DisasterAssistance.gov. They also can call 1-800-621-3362 to apply or for more information.
“All the FEMA reps are down there,” Dodd said, as are representatives from the Small Business Administration.
More than 6,500 Liberty County residents have filed claims for Hurricane Helene damage and 414 have done so for Tropical Storm Debby, Dodd added.
Also, residents who lost power and as a result had to throw away food can apply for D-SNAP (Disaster-SNAP) help from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Those applications are being taken at the First Baptist Church of Hinesville, 220 Memorial Drive.
Dodd said those seeking D-SNAP help do not need to be enrolled in SNAP already.
“This is for people who lost power and lost food,” Dodd said. “Anybody can apply for it.”
Operating hours for the D-SNAP program are from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. or until the last resident is served. It starts Monday and runs through Saturday and finishes on October 28.
More information on the D-SNAP process can be found at usda.gov.
