Hinesville Fire Department personnel work to extinguish a fire near Eagles Landing subdivision.

A fire that has plagued several neighborhoods closed a major roadway in Hinesville because of smoke and fire hoses having to be laid across the roadway.

Hinesville Fire Chief Robert Kitchings said there were numerous homes in danger in Eagles Landing off South Main Street and the surrounding area which took nearly two hours to bring under control.

The Georgia Forestry Commission is on hand extinguishing remaining fires.
