Fire in Ludowici destroys home

A Ludowici woman has been displaced after her mobile home caught on fire around 3 a.m. on Jan. 14.


According to firefighter, Bob Hefley of the Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire and Rescue, the fire completely destroyed the home. The homeowner, a 72-year-old woman, managed to escape with only the clothes she was wearing.


Hefley said when firefighters arrived the single wide mobile home located on South Main Street was fully engulfed in flames. Fire fighters from Walthourville and Long County State Prison fire unit were requested to provide mutual aid.

It is not known how the fire began and it remains under investigation by Ludowici/Long fire Chief, Chris Moss.

The Red Cross has been called into assist the woman who according to Hefley lost all her clothing, medications, and belongings.

Hefley said Family Connections Church is working to help find a place for the woman to live before asking for donations. Once she is settled, the church will post her needs.
