The Hinesville Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting after an apparent victim was discovered early Wednesday morning.

According to Hinesville Assistant Police Chief Maj. Tracy Howard, officers responded to a call of a man under a tree in the rear loading dock of Walmart.

Howard said a Walmart truck driver noticed the man and became concerned. The driver called 911.

When officers arrived shortly after 1 a.m., followed by members of the Hinesville fire department and emergency medical services, they discovered Jaylin Ferrell, 20, from Bloomingdale, unresponsive. They discovered Ferrell had been shot several times.

Howard said 911 had received a call of shots fired in the area of Walmart around 10 p.m. Tuesday but he did not say if the two incidents were related.

Howard said the death is under investigation and is asking the public’s help if anyone has information. He added the shooting does not appear to be a random act.
