Keep Liberty Beautiful recently received a 2021 Governor’s Circle Award for its outstanding community beautification and environmental sustainability achievements.

The Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation (KGBF) presented the award in recognition of exemplary performance in litter reduction, waste minimization and community greening. To qualify for the Governor’s Circle Award, affiliates must be certified and in good standing with Keep America Beautiful (KAB), the national nonprofit that oversees state and local programming. Additionally, the affiliate must be an active member of the KGBF network. Certified KAB affiliates are required to effect meaningful, positive and lasting change by directly addressing community needs in the areas of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction and beautification.

“Over the past year, these affiliates have come together to innovatively serve their communities,” said Natalie Johnston-Russell, executive director of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. “Despite ongoing challenges related to the pandemic, they continue to build vibrant public spaces as part of a national movement to improve and beautify communities across America. They’ve demonstrated remarkable creativity, persistence, and passion for our mission, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.”

Keep Liberty Beautiful is a community education, volunteer action organization focused on litter prevention, beautification and community improvement, waste reduction and recycling, storm-water pollution, water conservation education and awareness. It has been an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful since 1983 and embraces the goal of KAB: to engage individuals in taking greater responsibility for improving their community environments.

“Here at Keep Liberty Beautiful, we know that our wonderful volunteers and sponsors are what make our award-winning program a success,” said Dr. Karen Bell, executive director of Keep Liberty Beautiful. “We receive so much support from the Liberty County community to run our programs like Rivers Alive, Great American Cleanup, the Adopt Liberty program, Earth Day celebration, Bring One for the Chipper, Recycle It! fairs and Arbor Day. When we all work together, it makes our community a better, cleaner and more beautiful place to live.”

The Keep Liberty Beautiful staff is thankful for everyone who takes the time to make Liberty County green, clean and beautiful. Remember, you can do your part by recycling your electronics and household hazards at our next Recycle It! fairs this Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Liberty County Community Complex — which will have the shred truck — and Walthourville City Hall. A list of accepted recyclables can be found on page 7 and at www. keeplibertybeautiful.org.
