An Augusta man visiting Liberty County was slain in a shooting at Regency Terrace apartments in the early morning hours Tuesday.
According to an incident report filed by Hinesville Police Officer Terry Mays, officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. in reference to shots fired in the 1100 block of the complex.
When officers arrived, they found Damon Andrea Hardy, 21, lying on the ground. He appeared to have suffered from a gunshot wound to the upper left chest. The report notes an after-school party was going on in building 1106 when a group of men showed up, uninvited, in an apartment on the first floor.
A witness said an argument broke out among the group and a person named “Smoke.” Hardy apparently went downstairs to tell the group to take the argument elsewhere.  The witness said she heard one gunshot and then found Hardy lying face down on the ground with blood coming from his face.
According to Major Thomas Cribbs, chief of detectives for the HPD, Hardy was visiting his mother from Augusta, but officials are unsure whether she lives on Fort Stewart or in the Hinesville area.
“We are currently looking into the murder and can't offer more then what we currently have,” Cribbs said.
