Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Brian Barnes and other deputies discovered 15 vehicles in various stages of being stripped down Wednesday at a residence in the 700 block of Isle of Wight Road.
After running checks on the vehicles, law enforcement officials learned five had been reported stolen from Chatham, Glynn, Bulloch and Liberty counties. They ranged from a Cadillac, pickup trucks and sedans. One truck reportedly had been stolen from a soldier in Pooler, who owned it for only one week. The truck was missing its motor and hood.
Barnes said he received a tip that Rae Winn-Young, who was wanted for probation violations, may have been at the Isle of Wight Road residence. The detective also was told there might be stolen vehicles at the site.
Barnes and several deputies went to the residence to serve the warrants and found Sheldon Winn-Young running into the woods. Young took off on foot but later was caught. He admitted to taking parts off of vehicles but claimed he didn’t know they were stolen. Rae Winn-Young, Sheldon Winn-Young’s brother, was not at the residence and still is at large.
Sheldon Winn-Young was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property.
