A Liberty County man is accused of shooting and killing his mother around 4 p.m. Friday while they were traveling on Leroy Coffer Highway.

According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Doug Snider, Nicholas Bacon is accused of shooting and killing his mother, Montez Bacon, while she was driving towards Hinesville.

Witnesses say they saw Montez Bacon signal and turn into the Fleming Short Cut Gas station, hitting a small structure near the gas pumps.

When the vehicle stopped Nicholas Bacon began to walk down the road until he was detained by a Liberty County Deputy.

When first responders arrived they found Montez Bacon unconscious and unresponsive.  She was immediately taken to the Liberty County Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where she was later pronounced dead.
