Water deemed safe after spillage

Fort Stewart Public Affairs Officer Kevin Larson released a public notice to inform the public of a sewage spill that happened Wednesday.

The release said that an estimated 10 gallons of sewage flowed into a nearby storm-water collection system before discharging to a tributary of Taylors Creek. The spill was caused by a grease blockage in the sewer line in Fort Stewart.

The spill is not considered a major spill, according to the notice, and it does not impact drinking water.

The notice said installation personnel were quick to respond and correct the problem, averting further spillage and minimizing environmental impact. For more information call DPW Environmental Division at 767-2010.
