A 21-year-old man allegedly escaped from the trunk of a vehicle Tuesday morning, only wearing his underwear and socks.
According to Hinesville Police Department Captain Tracy Howard, the man whose name has not been released was allegedly being transported in the trunk of a white or gray Chevy Malibu. He allegedly made his escape in the Rodeo parking lot off Oglethorpe Highway around 10 a.m.
An employee across the street at JC Lewis Ford told authorities he had witnessed the vehicle with the trunk open pull into the Rodeo parking lot and watched the man run from the vehicle only wearing underwear and socks.
The man was visibly shaken up after running to the JC Lewis Ford Dealership and was given a shirt and blanket to cover himself before contacting police. He told authorities he used a safety release in the trunk of the car to free himself.
Howard said the man who is a resident from Calhoun, Ga, suffered injuries to his head and face and was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center where he refused medical treatment and declined to cooperate with authorities. He was given shoes and a pair of trousers before being taken to a local establishment and released. The vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Oglethorpe Highway and police have put out a bolo for the vehicle.
