LUDOWICI — A fatal shooting that occurred Friday in Long County remains under investigation.

Sheriff Craig Nobles said the incident was the result of an altercation between family members and the person who discharged the weapon was a service member assigned to Fort Stewart. The soldier, who was injured during the altercation, was taken to Winn Army Community Hospital for treatment. Fort Stewart officials confirmed a soldier was involved in the incident.

The shooting took place just before noon Friday on Miller Street. Long County Sheriff ’s Office and Fort Stewart Criminal Investigation Division agents responded to the incident.

Authorities are expected to release more information about the incident soon.
