Man shot during altercation
Crime scene tape

According to an incident report filed by Hinesville Police Officer, Jess Lamberth, a Hinesville man identified as Emmanuel Butler was shot several times Dec. 26, during a physical altercation in the 800 block of E.G. Miles Parkway around 2 a.m.

According to the incident report Officer Lamberth interviewed Butler’s ex-girlfriend at Liberty Regional Medical Center.

She told the officer she was at Frozen Paradise, located at 818 EG Miles Parkway, when she heard Butler involved in a verbal argument with two individuals on the backside of the business near Elaine Street.

The woman told Lamberth the men got into a physical altercation and when she went to help her ex-boyfriend, Butler fell to the ground.

As she went to help him up, she heard a single gunshot. The woman grabbed Butler and began to run from the area.

The woman told Lamberth that Butler got into a vehicle with her and asked her to drive him to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville.

According to the report the woman was unable to provide a description of the men who allegedly assaulted Butler because it was too dark to see them clearly. She was also unable to provide a direction of travel when the men took off after the alleged shooting.

When officers arrived Butler was unconscious with the medical staff rendering aid. Butler had a gunshot wound to the center of his chest, his left shoulder and right thigh.

Hinesville Police Officer Moore located two shell casings in a yard on Elaine Street though it’s not clear, according to the report, if these casing were the ones involved in the shooting.

According to Hinesville Chief of Detectives, Tracy Howard, Butler is currently in the ICU unit in Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. Detective Gail Poulson is the lead investigator in the case.
