Midway Middle, LCHS undergo renovations

Renovations took place at Midway Middle School, and the HVAC system at Liberty County High School is getting replaced before the start of the 2024-25 school year on August 5.

Work at Midway Middle included a new air duct in the gym, painting of the interior walls, changing the existing fluorescent lighting to LED fixtures, replacing flooring, ceiling tiles, window blinds and thermal insulation and upgrading the restrooms.

Dabbs-Williams Construction of Statesboro won the contract for the work, which is pegged at $4.9 million.

Air Management Systems is replacing the air conditioning units in the LCHS classrooms, along with a new system in the administrative office, exhaust fans, pumps and an energy management system.

Air Management Systems, out of Baxley, is conducting the HVAC replacement at LCHS, with a price tag of $2.4 million.

Also, the school system has received four new buses and a maintenance truck. Two other new maintenance trucks are expected to be delivered in August.

The overall cost for work during the summer in and out of the schools is $12.8 million, with funding coming from the state Department of Education, education special local option sales tax proceeds and ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief).
