A pleasant summer evening greeted 140 "Send Me!" soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, at their welcome home ceremony at Fort Stewart's Cottrell Field Thursday night.
Spartan Brigade commander Col. Terry Ferrell thanked the roughly 300 friends and family who came to the ceremony for their devotion to their soldiers during the 14-month deployment.
"Thank you for supporting your soldiers," Ferrell said.
He also praised his soldiers for their service and welcomed them back to Fort Stewart.
"Thank you for what you have done over the past 14-plus months," he said.  "It's been phenomenal. You have done magnificent."
The brigade was located mainly in Arab Jabour and detained more than 800 terrorist suspects and helped foster Iraqi self-governance.  Second Brigade soldiers blocked weapons from entering the Iraqi capital, protected the local population, and trained Iraqi security forces, Ferrell said.
To date, more than 3,100 2BCT soldiers have come home.
Following Ferrell's welcome and a rousing cry of, "Send me!" and the singing of the Marne and Army songs by all, the family members and friends rushed from the field's bleachers to greet their soldiers.
