Richmond Hill Marine dies in Afghanistan

A Marine from Richmond Hill has apparently been killed in Afghanistan.
No official notice had been released by the Department of Defense, but Gary Freeman has said his son, Capt. Matthew Freeman, 29, was killed Friday.
An Associated Press report Friday said a U.S. service member was killed in an attack on a convoy early Friday in the eastern part of the country. Thursday, four Marines were killed in a roadside bombing, according to the Pentagon.
Freeman was a pilot, but reportedly was serving ground duty in Afghanistan.
He was a 1998 graduate of Richmond Hill High School and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2002, when he was commissioned.
He was the son of Gary and Lisa Freeman of Richmond Hill. The older Freeman is also a graduate of the Naval Academy and was a career Navy Pilot. Matthew Freeman’s sister, Ginny is reportedly now attending the Naval Academy.
