Liberty County Chief Deputy Keith Moran has formally announced he intends to run for sheriff in November's special election.
The chief called the Courier's office Friday afternoon saying he wished to announce his intent to the public.
"I've been working with Sheriff (J. Don) Martin for almost 18 years now," he said. "We have established an effective department for Liberty County. I feel in my heart that sheriff Martin would want me to continue that work. We had some additional works and projects that we wanted to complete. My wife, my family and I have done some soul searching and we want to continue on with the work that we've been doing. I want the job and I' m going to run for the job."
There will be more on this story in Sunday's Coastal Courier.
