One dead, two injured in accident near Sunbury

One person is dead and two injured following a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Fort Morris Road and Islands Highway on the Eastern portion of Liberty County according to Liberty County Fire Chief, Brian Darby.

The accident happened Dec. 7 around 7:30 p.m. 

Darby said when Liberty County Station 20 arrived they discovered a 2006 Toyota 4 runner which had struck a tree.  The driver of the vehicle had to be extricated and flown by medical helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.  A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger was able to exit the vehicle and was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and refused further treatment.  The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.  Midway Fire and Rescue provided mutual aid.
