Fort Pulaski National Monument in Savannah will host special tours and events throughout the day Aug. 21 in honor of the solar eclipse.

The park’s “Off the Path” Eclipse Party will include arts, crafts, and Junior Ranger activities for children, plus special ranger-led programs about the science behind eclipses and the history of past eclipses around the world.

At Fort Pulaski the eclipse will begin at 1:15 PM and end at 4:15 PM, with maximum darkness around 2:45 PM. Free eclipse viewing glasses will be available to the public while supplies last. Looking at the eclipse at any time without special solar glasses is dangerous and could result in eye injury or blindness.

Fort Pulaski will be open on the day of the eclipse during normal operating hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with guided fort tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. For safety, the typical 3 p.m. tour will be moved to 3:30 p.m. on the day of the eclipse. Please note that during maximum darkness, movement around the fort may be limited for safety reasons.

11:30 a.m. – Ranger Program: Science and History of Eclipses

1 p.m. – Guided Fort Tour

1:15 p.m. – Eclipse begins

1:30 p.m. – Ranger Program: Science and History of Eclipses

2:46 p.m. – Maximum totality

3:30 p.m. – Guided Fort Tour

4:09 p.m. – Eclipse ends

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Children’s activities in the Guard Room
