Just hours after a store clerk was reportedly robbed Tuesday at knifepoint and sexually assaulted, Hinesville Police Department arrested 23-year-old Christopher Fletcher in connection with the incident.
Fletcher, a Texas native who had been staying with relatives in Hinesville, was arrested at a home on Becky Street
Police said an anonymous tip helped lead to the arrest. Also, a search of a blue duffle bag found in the area of the robbery contained paperwork with Fletcher’s name and information in it.
The robbery occurred at about 12:30 p.m. at Ok-Cha’s Fashion, Hair and Beauty Supply store, 1439 W. Oglethorpe Highway.
According to a police report, a man fitting Fletcher’s description, brandished a kitchen knife, and robbed and sexually assaulted a store clerk.
At one point, the victim was reportedly choked when the offender became angry the knife broke.
The woman was treated at the scene by Liberty County EMS.
An estimated $300 in cash and coins, a set of grill teeth and some jewelry were reported taken during the incident.
Fletcher is currently being held at the Liberty County Regional Jail on charges of armed robbery with possibly more charges pending. A bond hearing is scheduled for today.
