The Midway Police Department says it is opening an investigation into threats made against its officers, Chief Kelli Morningstar and family members.

The Midway police would not get into specifics about what caused the investigation, but the department previously said it had received calls from across the nation — some not so nice — about the decision to shut down three girls’ lemonade stand in June.

In addition, rumors swirled Wednesday that someone shot at Morningstar’s home with a pellet gun. Savannah CBS affiliate WTOC posted a report online; however, Midway police will not confirm or deny the alleged incident or that threats are connected to the decision to launch an investigation.
