Georgia Forestry Commission Long County Ranger Paul Robertson was terminated by the commission Monday.

GFC Director of Public Relations Wendy Burnett said Tuesday that Robertson had been terminated for providing conflicting and contradictory information to officers investigating a fire in the Long County area and also for failure to complete his job duties. Burnett said she could not provide any information regarding the location and date of the fire that Robertson was questioned about because the matter has been turned over to the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for investigation.

Robertson’s dismissal from the commission follows information provided Friday by Burnett that a GFC employee was under investigation for possibly intentionally setting a fire in the area. At that time, Burnett said the employee in question had been placed on leave with pay, pending the outcome of the investigation, but the person was not identified as Robertson.

A call placed Tuesday afternoon to AJC District Attorney Tom Durden regarding the case was not returned by press time.
