CLYO - Sheriff's deputies Effingham County are investigating a human skeleton found in some woods in southern Georgia.

Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor says authorities discovered the skeletal remains of an unidentified man Monday after someone called in a tip. The bones were found in woods near Clyo, 35 miles north of Savannah.

Ehsanipoor says an autopsy would be conducted Tuesday to determine the cause of death and the person's identity. He says investigators are treating the death as suspicious and believe the man died more than a year ago.

Because the death happened long ago, Ehsanipoor says investigators don't believe the remains are those of a missing student from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah. Bryce Tarter, who has been missing since Jan. 31, had family in Effingham County.
