Drug charge/speeding
Paul Sikes Drive, Hinesville

A deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding. As the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed the passenger was spraying some air freshener inside the vehicle. The deputy asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and asked him if there was any marijuana in the vehicle. The driver responded that he had no marijuana in the car but he and his friend had smoked some earlier, which is why his friend was using the air freshener. The deputy radioed for assistance and began to write a citation for the speeding violation. When assistance arrived, the deputy’s K-9 was brought out of the patrol car to inspect the suspect vehicle and made a positive hit for narcotics. Deputies found a partially smoked blunt, and on the passenger’s person was found a clear plastic bag containing eight small bags of suspected marijuana. Both suspects were placed under arrest and the vehicle impounded. The case is now under investigation.
